ITINERARY

  • Day 1

      • Paddle Time: 2.5-5 hours

Today you will begin at Wells Gray Adventures’ Office (Address Above) at 9 A.M. PST. Here you will be introduced to your guide, sign a waiver and be debriefed further on your canoe trip. Then it’s a 1 hour drive to the canoe dock on Clearwater Lake. We then paddle approximately 2.5 to 4 hours to our beach campsite. All campsites have outhouses, tables, fire-pits, and tent sites. We will set up camp and spend some time swimming, fishing or exploring before a great supper. After supper you may want an evening paddle to watch the stars or maybe a glass of wine around the campfire before retiring to your comfortable tent for the night.

  • Day 2

    Canoe Time: 2.5-5 hours

Today we have a leisurely start. After breakfast and a swim, we can start to take camp down. We load up the canoes and paddle down the other side of the lake to the canoe dock. We then start back down the Wells Gray Road for a tour of the famous waterfalls. We will visit Helmecken Falls (the fourth highest in Canada) and walk into Dawson Falls. You will be awed by your Wells Gray wild waters experience. Today’s hike is 10 km. and it takes 4-5 hours of easy walking. Tonight you will stay in a local accommodation, and meet us at our office again for the next morning.

Two adventurers enjoying a 5-day all-inclusive canoe and hike combination trip on the tranquil Clearwater lake, with a scenic mountain backdrop
  • Day 3

Wells Gray Adventures Office – Fight Chalet

      • Distance: 10.8 km (6.5mi)

      • Time: 4-6 hours

      • Elevation Min: 1344m (4,410 ft)

      • Elevation Max: 1852m (6,078 ft)

      • Ascent: 1,680 ft

      • Descent: 106 ft

      • Difficulty: Some on-trail and off-trail hiking among meadows. Possible wet sections.

Today you will begin at the Wells Gray Adventures office at 9 A.M. Here you will be introduced to your guide, sign a waiver, and be briefed further about your hiking trip. You will then have an hour drive to reach the trailhead which lies at 1400m (4500ft). The first forty five minutes of the trail is uphill and after reaching Philip Lake, a pretty mountain lake on the edge of the Alpine plateau, you will have gained most of your elevation for the day, about 250 m (800 ft). At Philip Lake you will stop to enjoy the scenery and have a snack. Now the trail is a gentle uphill grade through forest and then into the vast meadow system of Cariboo and Fight Meadows. It will take between three and four hours to hike through the meadows and forests to reach Fight Meadow Chalet at 6300-ft (1920 m). There is a large lake near the chalet, which is a historic site where two Indian Tribes fought for Caribou hunting rights. Today’s hike is 10 km. and it takes 4-5 hours of easy walking.

  • Day 4

Fight Chalet – Battle Mountain/52 Ridge – Fight Chalet

Please note today’s itinerary can vary depending on weather and group desires

      • Distance: 9km (5.6mi)

      • Time: 6hrs to 7hrs

      • Elevation Min: 1840m (6037’)

      • Elevation Max: 2369m (7772’)

Flight Chalet has great day-hiking options, one of the best is the climb to Battle Mountain. From the Chalet, we hike across 52 Ridge, which is actually a ‘thuya,’ the name given for the landform created when a volcano erupts under glacial ice. As we walk this ridge, we can still see the craters created when the hot lava met the cold ice. From 52 Ridge, we descend into Bull Valley, where we are treated to an incredible vision as all the colors of this spectacular wildflower

  • Day 5

Fight Chalet – Wells Gray Adventures Office

      • Distance: 10.5km (6.5mi)

      • Time: 5hrs to 6hrs

Today marks our return to the real world via the Battle Creek Trail. This trail guides us from the high plateau down into the picturesque Clearwater River valley. The hike will predominantly be downhill once we depart from the meadow areas, and will take you down through four distinct vegetative zones. Hiking poles can be particularly helpful on this descent.
