Clearwater and Azure Lake Canoe Trips
Great Equipment, Guides and Prices!
In the summer, we offer fully guided and catered 2, 3 and 6 day canoe trips deep into the heart of Wells Gray Park. If you are interested in a special itinerary, please email or call. The opportunities for adventures are endless. These trips take the visitor up Clearwater Lake and on the longer trip, Azure Lake, two of the premier canoeing lakes in British Columbia. The massive Wells Gray Park protects the watershed of the Clearwater River and the Clearwater and Azure Lake are the heart of it. A trip on these lakes offers you the chance to swim, paddle and enjoy one of the most pristine bodies of water in the world. Wildlife viewing on both lakes is excellent as wolf, deer, and moose are frequently seen. No canoeing experience is needed as our guides are also instructors and all trip members will have the opportunity to perfect Canadian canoeing techniques.
All prices include guide, accommodation, meals and transport to and from the trailhead from Clearwater. Kids 17 and under are 15% off. If there is more than one family, the discount for the kids will be increased. Please call or email for special family departures. If you have a group of friends or family that need a special date, please contact us. Group Discounts will apply for a group of eight people or more.

We can pack a lunch and explore up lake for fishing holes or paddle to the end of the lake where the Clearwater River pours into the lake and forms a small lagoon. If you would like to stretch your legs, you can hike to an amazing viewpoint. Would you rather explore the lake? We can pack a lunch and start paddling. You will stop and explore amazing beaches and hike into a lovely waterfall. Or, you may choose to stay in camp and swim or sit in the sun and read or you might choose a combination of all these activities.

6 Day Summer Canoe Trip Itinerary
For more information please call 1 888 754 8735 or email info@skihike.com
The only way to access the heart of Wells Gray Park is through Clearwater and Azure Lake, two of the premier canoeing lakes in British Columbia. Wildlife viewing on both lakes is excellent as wolf, deer, and moose are frequently seen. No canoeing experience is needed as our guides are also instructors and all trip members will have the opportunity to perfect Canadian canoeing techniques. You will cover a spectacular and diverse 60 or 100 km on this trip.
Day 1: After meeting at our office at 9:00 or being picked up at your accommodation, we will cover pre-trip information and sign liability waivers. We then have a scenic one hour drive to Clearwater Lake and the trip’s starting point. At Clearwater Lake we off-load all of our gear and pack it onto the Rainbow Mist for a boat ride up Clearwater Lake and then up the Clearwater River and into Azure Lake. You will be amazed at how spectacularly beautiful the country you are experiencing is. After about 45 minutes, you leave the easy shorelines of Clearwater Lake and by the time you have boated up the Clearwater River Azure Lake is offering views of spectacular cliffs and snow capped peaks. The Mist drops you off at the beautiful Rainbow Falls Campsite where we set up our camp for the next two nights. All campsites have outhouses, tables, fire-pits, and tent sites.

Day 2: After a great breakfast you will explore the beautiful area around Rainbow Falls Campsite. You will hike through an incredible fairy tale forest covered in soft moss to see Rainbow Falls itself and then head back to camp for some lunch. There will be a canoeing practice session and then you can choose to spend the day fishing, swimming, building sandcastles, or exploring the Lake.
Day 3: By now we have made a dent in our food so it will be time to pack up the lighter load and start down Azure Lake to our next camping spot on Indian Point. Today’s paddle will take between 3.5 and 4 hours. With plenty of snacks and a bucket of rocks to throw overboard this will be a wonderful day! We will paddle close to the shore and see gorgeous trees, multicoloured rocks, birds, and, if we are lucky, some wildlife.
Day 4: This morning we paddle down the Clearwater River into Clearwater Lake. This portion of our journey is classified as moving water and by now everyone will have been in their canoes long enough to be comfortable with it. After we reach the north end of Clearwater Lake we will paddle to our campsite and spend the evening looking straight into the mountains that surround Azure Lake. Today’s paddle is approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.
Day 5: After a hot cup of tea or coffee on the beach admiring the view and a bit of breakfast you will pack up the boats and head across the lake to the east side. Our destination today is one of the most famous campsites on the Lake – Barview. Barview Campsite is home to one of the most beautiful white-sand beaches you will experience this side of the Caribbean! We hope to get there early enough to play in the sun and build many spectacular sand castles. Today our paddle will be about the same length as the day before, 2.5 to 3 hours. Barview Campground is the perfect place for star-gazing and after a spaghetti dinner you will be ready to lay on the beach and stare at the spectacle.
Day 6: A 2.5 hour paddle back to the put-in-point and the vehicle. You get off the Lake in the early afternoon. On the return drive you stop in and see the famous Helmcken and Dawson waterfalls along the way.
